From small one-off jobs to large fabrication and restoration projects, both mobile at customer premises or workshop based within the Lancashire and South Cumbria region, although work further afield is carried out with customer vehicles transported to our workshop. Our real specialty is old automotive work such as Landrovers, VWs, Classic Mini, Escorts and old motorcycles etc, pretty much anything that was made in metal not plastic! We are happy to take on your project from start to finish or support you to complete the project yourself and particularly interested in supporting those that have had their project for a while, but it is just gathering dust in a garage or outbuilding somewhere, give us a call and let us help you resurrect, work through and complete it!

About

We are a family run business with father and son (Grandad as well) in the workshop and mother in the office keeping father and son busy! Darren (Father) is time-served City & Guilds qualified in all forms of welding practices and metal fabrication with experience in Petro-Chemical, Automotive, Nuclear, Agriculture, Heavy Engineering and Construction industries including coded experience, for those who know what that is. Brought up in a family of engineers (Grand-farther was head engineer of boats at Fleetwood docks, Father was a manager of an engine remanufacturing company and Uncle was Engineering manager at the local ICI) I was immersed in engineering from a very young age and started restoring cars and motorcycles with my father when I was in my early teens, stripping my first engine (mums mini) when about 12! My first full restoration was a 1955 series 1 SWB Landrover that my father helped me purchase from a local scrap yard when I was 15, which we then spent the next year or so completely stripping down and fully overhauling. It was at this point I realised although I had the knowledge and know how to do the mechanical side of things, I did not have the required skills to do all the welding and fabrication repairs that led me to choose this as my apprenticeship when I left school at 16. We completed the Landy by the time I turned 17 and this was my daily drive when I passed my test soon after until I was nearly 21. The resto bug had bit and we embarked on many restorations over the next few years for both customers and our own; some of which made the cars section of the Evening Gazette, notably my dad’s 1956 diesel series 1 Landrover that had been sitting in a barn for over 25 years and my 1978 'Candy Apple' Ford Capri that I did a nut and bolt bare metal rebuild on.

Isaac (Son) has got the engineering 'gene' and once he had completed his GCSE's stated a pre-apprentice course in vehicle fitting operations at college prior to starting his full apprenticeship. He like me started helping his dad with mechanical maintenance of family vehicles, moving onto restoration work (most recently completing a full restoration of a 125cc motorcycle and his own first car an old K11 Nissan Micra) and now supporting the business under my supervision and we both absolutely love it!

Georgianna (Mother) is an artist who creates beautiful metal sculptures and paintings, she runs a project which supports artists get back into work after having a child and offers wellbeing workshops to vulnerable women. As well as juggling bringing up our young daughter and being an artist, she supports the running of the business and manages our Facebook page, Instagram, website and advertising.

William (Grand father) has spent his whole life in and around the automotive industry even when he ran a successful fish selling business, he was still tied in one way or another to the trade and he still is today, although he is also a very talented artist and restorer of old mechanical clocks! However, he is still really passionate about old vehicles and in particular Landrovers and has a cracking 1955 series 1 diesel (not the one we found in a barn) that we recently completed a full restoration of (take a look at the post on the timeline).

Over the last 35 years I completed many partial and full restorations for numerous customers through word of mouth of the work we do. Although the experience we have spans a multitude of industries and settings, it is a passion for old vehicles that has persisted and today forms the focus of our business and our specialty. Through the years we have performed partial or complete restorations of early series 1 2 and 3 and later Landrovers, Type 1 & 2 VWs, classic Mini and Ford Escorts, Capri, Cortina, MG, Triumph and numerous other makes including Jap. We have a great deal of experience, skills and knowledge that enables us to provide the very best service you require whether this is small sized and intricate work such as a one-off exhaust system or larger scale structural and mechanical work like a knackered chassis, broken engine or gearbox cases to mechanical overhauls and floor up nut and bolt restorations. Our particular skill is in the reproduction, where aftermarket pattern parts are no longer available, and putting right of corroded or broken metalwork that when finished is as original, we don’t just patch over a rusty hole! Our work is of the highest quality and finish, using the correct materials and traditional methods, guaranteeing the satisfaction and approval of our customers.

The business is relatively new and although we should have set it up years ago it was the pandemic 'lock down' that was the catalyst, or kick up the arse, we needed. Although I and Isaac could not work anywhere else, we could work together and so we spread the word we were in business and we quickly started some customer projects such as Liam's Landy, Divid's Disco 1 and James 'Welly' that we are currently in the process of doing a full nut and bolt rebuild on as well as our own 'Fraser' the early 110 county. We aim to steadily build the business and hope to expand into slightly bigger but better premises at the end of summer 2021 and take on a further apprentice to work along Isaac around the same time.

If you have a project of your own that you want some help with or someone to take it on for you then please get in touch, also take a look at our posts of the work we have previously carries out.
